Why did we ever open the heart to loathsome ache? It’s just another weather-beaten landmark On our road to nowhere. Let the lie reach further so it nurtures the worm in the wound. This was always our pointless attempt To reconsiliate poisonous rage The peakless sensation of unpeeling your shame How foolish of us to envy the fate of Sisyphus. In a waning world like ours the most fortunate outcome Is not to covet boredom Consolation only to decimate Existential dread and eternal mistakes A terrible deceit to delude ourselves A desperate desire to decorate the decay And with a whisper we lie with the snakes And open our eyes to greet the next depressing day I am your sorrow The disappearing door. The atmosphere of this album is fantastic. Makes you feel like you're knee-deep in the trenches drenched in mud, filth, sweat, and blood. Truly encapsulates the horrors of World War I, and the fact that the lyrics of some of the songs are taken from old war letters really adds to the authenticity. While Ofte jeg drømmer mig død will most likely always be my favourite Afsky album (being one ov my favourite albums in general), Om hundrede år ticks all the boxes I hoped it would: the calm and simultaneously depressing folk elements are there; the wailing screams of a forlorn spirit, forced to eternally wander the woods (apt comparison, deadpunk!); the harsh, bitterly cold guitar riffs and the ultimate realisation of life, death and our inevitable undoing.
